Jumping To-Do Lists

“What’s the worst that could happen? It could fail. Or it could end up in your to-do list forever.” - Laura Bush, advice given to Barbara & Jenna

How many things have I regulated to my to-do list while I played it safe?

Yesterday I was watching Hoda & Jenna while folding laundry, and when Jenna uttered these words I stopped in my tracks. Like, literally, sat down holding the towel and paused the TV. Leave it to Laura, to give the best advice I’ve ever heard. And I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

If there were no obstacles, what would I do tomorrow? What would you do? And if the option was to stare at the list forever, or just jump, would I jump?

Three years ago, I decided to travel more. That the world’s too big and offered too many amazing things to not see as much of it as I could. So I jumped.

Two years ago, I saw the writing on the wall, at a job, working for a narcissist, who made me hate myself and question my capabilities. So I jumped.

And a few months ago I decided it was time to get back on stage, that my passion and calling for acting was still there and didn’t deserve to be put on the back burner anymore. So I jumped.

And there have been failures along the way too. There always are but as far as I can tell, jumping, taking the risk, it never fails. You always learn something, whether you succeed or not.

Dreams, goals, wants, desires, they are not meant to exist on paper alone. You can write the list, but you have to put it into action, or all you're doing is wasting paper.
